Multibillion dollar large wind power companies and the governments that support them often times use eminent domain. Don’t think it can’t happen in Rhode Island? Think Again!
The following two proposals from Governor Richardson of New Mexico and Rhode Island Governor Carcieri are virtually the same type of agency being proposed in the two States with vast powers. Public utility companies usually have eminent domain powers for transmission lines. The Rhode Island offshore wind farm utility lines and cables will have to be brought from the offshore wind farms to land, and from there to the main power station. Substations will also have to be built. The wind power track record across the country is quite poor as you will see. Private property seizures are happening in many States across this country because of the installation of wind farms.
New Mexico Renewable Energy Transmission Authority
This agency would have the power of eminent domain to acquire property for transmission lines, could issue bonds to help pay for construction of projects and enter into leases with utilities or others for operation of the lines financed by the authority. The Proposed Rhode Island Power Authority
A quasi-public agency that would have had the authority to issue bonds to finance renewable energy projects, such as the proposal by the governor to establish one or more wind farms. This proposal died in the House of the General Assembly in 2007 but Governor Carcieri is back at it again trying to ram the legislation through the General Assembly in 2008 and get it passed.
